Talcott Resolution Data Breach Investigation

Talcott Resolution is a life insurance and annuity company. As the U.S. focused arm of the Talcott Financial Group, Talcott Resolution oversees approximately one million contracts and manages $90 billion in pro-forma assets. Among the services provided by Talcott Resolution are variable annuities, fixed & payout annuities, and private placement life insurance. In addition, Talcott Resolution offers risk and capital management for the insurance industry. To deliver these services, Talcott Resolution employs 500 individuals with an average of 15 years of experience in the field.


On June 4, 2023, Talcott Resolution discovered that PBI Research Services, a third-party vender used by Talcott Resolution, experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information of Talcott Resolution customers may have been accessed and obtained. Through its investigation, Talcott Resolution determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through a cyber-attack on the MOVEit file transfer software used by PBI Research Services on or around May 29, 2023. On June 8, 2023, Talcott Resolution began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Policy number
