Ortho Development Corporation Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Ortho Development Corporation (“ODEV”) regarding its recent data breach. The ODEV data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of employees.

ABOUT ORTHO DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION:

ODEV is a medical device design and manufacturing company based in Utah. Founded in 1994, ODEV specializes in the development and distribution of knee and hip replacement implants and surgical instruments. Today, ODEV’s comprehensive total knee portfolio includes both primary and revision systems. The Balanced Knee System, ODEV’s foundation product, has 20 years of clinical success and approaching 100,000 TKA procedures performed worldwide.2 Additionally, ODEV’s primary hip replacement systems offer a varied selection of femoral stems and acetabular components, providing surgeons with options to accommodate multiple surgical approaches and treat a wide range of patient anatomy.3 Headquartered in Draper, Utah, ODEV has one location and employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On November 30, 2023, ODEV was informed that one of its third-party vendors had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. The incident investigation determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed this sensitive information through a vulnerability in MOVEit Transfer, a file sharing software used by ODEV’s vendor, on or about May 31, 2023. On January 26, 2024, ODEV began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
