Northern Virginia Oral, Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Northern Virginia Oral, Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery (“NOVA OMS”) regarding its recent data breach. The NOVA OMS data breach involved personal information and protected health information belonging to over 5,000 individuals.

NOVA OMS is a dental and orthodontic surgery practice based in Virginia. Founded in 1996, NOVA OMS offers a wide range of oral surgery services, including dental implants, tooth extractions, bone grafting, facial cosmetic surgery, oral cancer screenings, jaw surgery, and oral pathology. Today, NOVA OMS employs five board-certified oral surgeons that rotate between locations. Headquartered in Burke, Virginia, NOVA OMS has two additional locations in Virginia and employs over 10 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, NOVA OMS discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which personal information and protected health information may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, NOVA OMS determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed this sensitive information between October 3 and October 6, 2023. On March 28, 2024, NOVA OMS began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Driver’s license number
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
