Wrongful-Termination

Wrongful Termination

In Wisconsin, can an employer fire an employee for no reason? Yes.

Employment is at-will in Wisconsin.

However, an employer can’t fire an employee for an illegal reason. Employees can’t be fired because of their race, age, gender, relation or national origin.

And surprisingly, there is no requirement that the employer or the employee give any notice of termination.

If you are an employee and feel like you were terminated for an unlawful reason, you have 300 days (from the date of the action) to file a complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development’s Equal Rights Division (ERD) or the Equal Opportunities Commission (EEOC).
